Due to a $110 donation, all prizes were larger than indicated !!

Also, for the first time ever, we had a chess books and booklets table where each item was only $1 each !
In fact, $30 worth of books were sold !!

This was a 3-Round, Grand Prix, Open chess tournament sponsored by the Roanoke Valley Chess Club and was rated by the U.S. Chess Federation.

The tournament was held Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 at St. John's Lutheran Church. The church is located in Roanoke, Va. at 4608 Brambleton Ave. SW.

Time Controls: G/90 ( with 5 seconds delay ).

Prizes were as follows: $410 was split 3 ways.
There was a three-way tie for 1st-3rd in the tournament. The winners were Felix Mc Cain of Forest, Va., Bob Mahan of Montgomery County, Va., and Steve Tucker of Tazewell, Va. All were undefeated and had 2.5 points out of three. Felix is well-known as a perennial winner of our Grand Prix events, super active player Bob Mahan sometimes appears there as well. Appearing for the first time in the winner's circle is Steve Tucker, who registered a big upset tournament performance. Congratulations to all three of these great guys !!

I would like to thank the following folks who were a great help in setting up the tournament : Josh Lilly, Ray Megginson, Tom and Darren Bias, Mike Huff and Rusty Potter.

There were no problems and a really great time was had by everybody !   See you all at the Muir Memorial on May 21 !
