RVCC 2011 ANNUAL RE-ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING MINUTES


1 ) On Saturday, September 10, 2011, the Roanoke Valley Chess Club held its annual reorganizational business meeting. The meeting was convened by club President Richard White at the club's headquarters in the Roanoke Natural Foods Co-Op on Grandin Road SW.

2 ) Events. A full report was given about the events that the club had either directed or participated in for the 2010-2011 club year. These included the following events in 2010 : Autumn-Winter Club Challenge Ladder , Halloween Quick Chess Tournament, Thanksgiving Quick Chess Tournament, Jack Frost Quick Chess Tournament..

In 2011 we had : Tons of Fun Celebration Outreach, February Grand Prix, Spring-Summer Club Challenge Ladder, Walter Muir Memorial , Grandin Village Block Party, Festival in the Park Celebration Outreach, Spring Quick Chess Championship, Summer Quick Championship

Callis Memorial Warmup, a Summer Scrimmage Match with the Lynchburg Chess Club,

and the Tracy Callis Memorial. A very busy and gratifying club year !

3 ) Web Page. A report was given on the club's Web Page. Our current Web Master is Mr. Martin Cooperson. The club is very pleased with the continuous excellence, creativity and promptness of his work. We are fortunate indeed to have Martin's help !

4 ) RVCC Database list. A report on the club's ACCESS database of e-mail addresses was given. Our contact list for chess events has grown to more than 400 names !

5) Other Old Business. The club membership recognized and commended the volunteer team that has worked together in order to make the club successful this year.

A partial list includes the following people : Josh Lilly, Rusty Potter, Mike Huff, Richard White, Martin Cooperson, Erik Diaz, Ray Megginson, Mike Smith, Hunter Harlow and others.

6) Election of Officers.
Mike Huff was elected as President of the RVCC.
Erik Diaz, Ray Megginson and Hunter Harlow were elected as the club's Vice Presidents.
Josh Lilly was re-elected Treasurer.

7) Tournament Calendar. The Board of Directors met and agreed upon a Calendar of Events for the upcoming club year. This schedule includes both our USCF-rated Grand Prix tournaments, as well as our very popular casual chess events.

This Calendar is now posted on our Web Page.

8) Dues. Dues for the 2011-2012 club year were then collected.

9) The general membership meeting was then adjourned at approx. 3:30 pm.

10) Board of Directors Elections Meeting. The meeting of those members with 2 or more years of dues-paid membership then convened at approx. 3:45 pm and elected the following members to the following positions on the Board of Directors :

    1) EVEN YEAR 'A' SPOT : 2010-2012 : Russell Potter.

    2) EVEN YEAR 'B' SPOT : 2010-2012 : Mike Huff.

    3) ODD YEAR 'A' SPOT : 2011-2013 : Josh Lilly .

    4) ODD YEAR 'B' SPOT : 2011-2013 : ( Vacant ).

Russell Potter was elected by the other Board Members to continue serving as Chairman of the Board.

11) Adjournment. This meeting was then adjourned at approx. 4:30 PM.
