As part of its series of special, one-day, Unrated tournaments, the Roanoke Valley Chess Club recently held its SPRING QUICK CHESS TOURNAMENT. This tournament was held on Saturday, April 7, 2012 in the Community Room of the Roanoke Natural Foods Co-Op in Roanoke, Virginia. The tournament was a round-Robin event, with ALL entries being returned as prizes! The time control was Game in 10/5 TIME CONTROL and was played under modified Quick Chess Rules.

There was plenty of excitement and drama in all of the games with some critical games being won due to blundering because of time pressure.

In all, there were 4 players who won money ! Charlie Morgan and Jernel Sharp tied for 1st - 2nd place. Congratulations gentlemen! Also Eric Diaz took clear 3rd. Mike Huff and Ray Megginson own 4th prize and Mike Huff won the Amateur prize. Congratulations to all of the prize winners ! Of particular note is the participation of Charles T. Morgan in this event. "C.T." as he is affectionately called, is a USCF Master. He is a former champion of the R.V.C.C. He has won the Arizona, West Va. and SW U.S. Championships. He has also tied for 1st place in the prestigious Mid-South Championship. A terrific record ! We are delighted to have C.T. Morgan come out of retirement to play in our club events! The on-site Tournament Director was Ray Megginson. There were no significant problems of any kind and everyone appeared to have a really good time!

The Roanoke Valley Chess Club sincerely appreciates everyone who participated and made this Saturday Special event at the Co-Op yet another successful one in our series. We also express our deep appreciation to the management and staff of the Co-Op, who have gone out of their way to make us feel especially welcome there for our weekly Saturday Club meetings.
