On Saturday, February 4, 2012, the Roanoke Valley Chess Club participated in Roanoke County Parks and Recreation's Tons of Fun event at Tanglewood Mall. All of our three tables and six boards were busy soon after doors opened at 10 a.m., and interest in chess remained high throughout the day.

Visitors to our tables ran the gamut from young to old, both male and female. We even had a family from Siberia, by way of Canada! The mall teemed with throngs of parents and excited children checking out dozens of family-friendly organizations and performances, and we handed out many flyers for the chess club to the public. Long after the close of Tons of Fun festivities at 4 p.m., we still had people playing chess at our tables!

Tons of Fun organizers have thanked the R.V.C.C. for helping to make Tons of Fun a success, and have invited us to come again next year.
